Nang Suwanmalee – นางสุวรรณมาลี

Turntable

Hi everyone!
This is my first 3D character project, created for my ITGM 746: Digital Sculpting Pipelines and Practices class.
I would like to thank Professor Baker for teaching and guiding me throughout this project. I feel that I learned a lot and improved significantly during th
e process.
For this project, I wanted to challenge myself by creating a character wearing traditional Thai clothing. The character was inspired by Thai literature, specifically Phra Aphai Mani, a poetic tale written by Sunthorn Phu. I adapted the inspiration into my own character design while exploring a fantasy character art direction.
One of the most meaningful parts of this project was creating the Thai traditional fabric material in Substance 3D Designer. During the early concept stage, I explored a variety of visual references to develop the design direction. Since accuracy was important to me, I also researched traditional Thai costume references to better understand the shapes, patterns, and cultural elements.
I created the character from scratch, including modeling, sculpting, texturing, and material development, without the use of a base mesh.
This project was a valuable learning experience, and I am excited to continue improving my character art skills.
